Beck Leads the Eagles After Day One of the MAC Championship

SILVER LAKE, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf program kicked off the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships Friday, April 21, at the Silver Lake Country Club with a team score of 319.
Junior Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) topped the Eagles' lineup with a first round score of 7 to sit in a tie for seventh in a field of 49 players. Sophomore Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) carded a 79 for 23rd-place, while senior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) added an 82 for 38th. Making her MAC Championship debut, freshman Maria Connelly (Waterville, Ohio-Anthony Wayne) managed an 83 for 41st.
Defending Champion Kent State currently tops the leaderboard by a first round team score of 289. The Golden Flashes' Pimnipa Panthong, Wad Phaewchimplee and Karoline Stormo are tied for first in the individual competition with even first round scores of 72.
The EMU women's golf program will continue the MAC Championships tomorrow with the second round of action beginning in an 8:30 a.m. tee time. Follow live scoring throughout the tournament at Golfstat.com.
