EMU will remain in the Midwest for the Al Owens Classic

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Following a strong three days at a trio of meets, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team rolls on this week with the Al Owens Classic, April 21-22, in Allendale, Mich.
Last week, Eastern competed in a trio of meets, including the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, April 14, out in California. There, redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) had an excellent day in the 3000m steeplechase elite invite, finishing sixth with a time of 8:44.84, which currently ranks No. 5 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference by nearly 20 seconds. For his efforts, Fink was named MAC Track Athlete of the Week, April 18.
The majority of the team, however, competed at the Grizzly Invitational, April 15. Sophomore Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich. - Clinton) secured a pair of top-five finishes, taking fifth in the 100m dash finals with a career-best time of 10.69 seconds, in addition to also winning the 200m dash in a personal-best 21.16 seconds. Sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio - Bishop Hartley) also won both the high jump and the long jump with marks of 2.00 meters/ 6 feet 6.75-inches and 7.26 meters/ 23 feet 9.75-inches.

The Al Owens Classic starts on Friday, April 21, with the women's hammer and men's javelin throw at noon, with the triple jump set to follow.
