UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) returned to his string of solid play Sunday, April 16, as he carded a three-round 217 (75-69-73) to finish in eighth-place at the Rutherford Intercollegiate on the par-71, 7,202-yard PSU Blue Course.
For Rodes, it was his sixth top 10 showing of the year and the ninth of his stellar career, as he pieced together rounds of 75, 69 and 73 for the top spot among EMU golfers.
The Eagles finished in a tie with Seton Hall University for fourth with a 879 (298-283-298). Host Penn State University and Georgetown University shared the tournament title at 16-over 868. Ohio's Peyton White Ohio cruised to medalist honors with a four-under 209 (69-68-72).
Senior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) finished tied for 13th with a total of 220 (76-71-73) and sophomore Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) managed a 221 (73-72-76) in a tie for 17th-place. Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and senior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) completed the EMU lineup in a tie for 35th at 225.
Playing for the first time as an Eagle, junior Tyler Lewis (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon-Mott CC) posted a final round 71 to take 31st with a 224 (78-75-71).
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham and crew have one more regular season tune up at the Robert Kepler Invitational, April 22-23, in Columbus, Ohio, before hosting the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 28-30.
