Fink Claims Sixth in 3000m Steeple at Mt. SAC Relays

ADRIAN, Mich. & TORRANCE, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team had a small number of competitors at the Don Kleinow Invitational, Thursday, April 13, in Adrian, Mich, while the squad also had a limited number compete at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, Friday, April 14. The Green and White had a solid showing, claiming a pair of event titles on the day in Adrian, while the distance group on the west coast had some strong performances against tough competition.
The Eagles had a pair of hurdlers take home top-three finishes in the 110m hurdles finals after turning in a 1-2 finish in the prelims. Leading the way was redshirt senior Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio – Fairfield Senior), who claimed gold after clocking in at 14.59 seconds. Just two spots behind him, freshman Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla. – Blanche Ely) secured third-place after crossing the finish line in 15.02 seconds.
Eastern also had two throwers compete in the discus throw. The Green and White brought home another gold in the event, as sophomore Zach Harkey (Huron, Ohio – Huron) finished atop the podium with a mark of 49.45 meters/ 162 feet 3-inches. Redshirt freshman Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla. – Edmond Memorial) had a strong day as well, claiming fifth with a career-best throw of 45.42 meters/ 149 feet.
"Three very solid performances that we will continue to build on," remarked Head Coach John Goodridge when speaking about the distance runners at the Mt. SAC Relays. "The trio gained some valuable experience."
The Eagles were represented on the west coast at the Mt. SAC Relays by a trio of distance runners, all of whom had a strong day. In the 3000m steeplechase elite invite, redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) claimed sixth, posting a time of 8:44.84, which is just four seconds off his career-best. The other two EMU distance runners both took part in the 5000m run elite invite, with redshirt junior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland – Mountain Ridge) leading the way after claiming 24th with a time of 14:05.01 Just behind him, fellow redshirt junior Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) nabbed 30th in 14:08.55.
EMU will continue competition Saturday, April 15, as the squad will see more of the team in competition at the Grizzly Invitational in Rochester, Mich. Action from the Grizzly Invite is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
