ROCHESTER, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team took part in the Grizzly Invitational today, April 15, to wrap up a competitive week at a trio of meets. The Green and White had a strong showing, securing a number of career-bests while also nabbing many top-three finishes.

EMU had a pair of sprinters qualify to the finals of the 100m dash, as sophomore Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich. – Clinton) and freshman Sean Beckom (Saginaw, Mich. – Heritage) claimed third and fourth, respectively, in the prelims. Beckom jumped into third in the finals, clocking in with a career-best 10.62 seconds, while Underwood nabbed fifth in a personal-best 10.69 seconds. Underwood also won the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in a career-best 21.16 seconds, while redshirt senior Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich. – Farmington) nabbed the bronze in 21.69 seconds, which was also a personal-best. Rounding out the sprints, Ervin also secured fourth in the 400m dash, clocking in at 49.75 seconds.

Junior Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) was the team's top competitor in the 800m run, as he finished with the silver after posting a time of 1:53.29. Freshman Roderic Wilson (Atlanta, Ga. – Blanche Ely) was not far behind, as he took home fourth in a personal-best 1:54.30. Finally, redshirt junior Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich. – Owosso) nabbed a bronze in the 1500m run, posting a time of 4:08.16. Eastern also had strong showings in both relays, as the Green and White took second in the 4x100m relay and third in the 4x400m relay.

A trio of hurdlers managed to qualify into the 110m hurdles finals, with redshirt senior Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio – Fairfield Senior) leading the way after finishing atop the podium in the prelims. In the finals, Lindsey secured a third-place finish in 14.53 seconds, while freshman Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla. – Blanche Ely) claimed fourth in a career-best 14.62 seconds. The 400m hurdles saw sophomore Elijah Barber (Columbus, Ohio - Eastmoor Academy) claim third in 54.77 seconds, which was just off his career-best.

Sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) had a very strong day, as he won both of his events. Hart managed to finish atop the podium in the high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters/ 6 feet 6.75-inches, while also claiming gold in the long jump with a jump of 7.26 meters/ 23 feet 8.75-inches, which was an outdoor career-best. The pole vault saw sophomore Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Jerome) secure another gold, as he finished with a personal-best vault of 4.45 meters/ 14 feet 7.25-inches. Rounding out the jumps, sophomore Micah Peters (York, Ontario – Vaughn Road Academy) snagged second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.29 meters/ 46 feet 10.5-inches.

Moving to the throws, sophomore Taige Bryant (Edmond, Okla. – Edmond Memorial) was the top discus thrower, as he claimed 10th with a throw of 42.48 meters/ 139 feet 5-inches. In the hammer, redshirt senior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio – Sandusky) had a solid outing, taking second with a throw of 59.67 meters/ 195 feet 9-inches. Finally, freshman Jannik Schmitt (Plymouth, Mich. – Salem) claimed eighth in the shot put with a personal-best launch of 15.05 meters/ 49 feet 4.5-inches.

Next week, the squad remains together for the Jesse Owens Invitational, April 21-22, held down in Columbus, Ohio.
