UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – After firing an opening round 298 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team turned in a 283 to finish the opening day with a cumulative score of 581 in a tie for third-place. The tournament is being hosted by Penn State University at the par-71, 7,183-yard PSU Blue Course.
Senior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) is one of three Eagles to reside inside the top-20 spots after firing a 144 (75-69) that included his 15th round at par-or-better this season to sit in a 10th-place tie. Sophomore Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) followed with a 145 (73--72) in a tie for 13th, while junior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) is 16th after a 146 (75-71).
Senior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) posted a 147 (76-71) and is tied for 23rd as classmate Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) rounded out the scoring with a 153 (75-74) in 67th. Playing as an individual, junior Tyler Lewis (Ortonville, Mich.-Brandon-Mott CC) notched rounds of 78 and 75 for 55th-place.
Georgetown sits atop the leader board with a two-round score of one-over 569 (285-284). Ohio is in second place followed by EMU (581), Penn State (581) and Oakland (583). Peyton White of Ohio is tied for the lead with a score of five-under par 137 (69-68).
Tee times for the final round of play will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 16. No live scoring is available for the tournament, but round results will be posted on EMUEagles.com.
