Multer Tied for Top-Spot at GCU Invitational After 36 Holes

Eagles used the second-lowest round in program history to climb into second-place

PHOENIX, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University redshirt senior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) posted six birdies and an eagle on the par-4 14th hole on the way to a career-low 66 during the second round of the GCU Invitational Friday, March 17, at the Grand Canyon University Championship Golf Course.
The Battle Creek, Mich. native upped his game after a first round 69, to card a seven-under 29 on the back nine in the second round. Multer's previous low for a single round was at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, when he notched a 68 on the opening day, April 18-19, 2015.
After two rounds of play, the Eagles are in second-place behind No. 21 Duke University with a 559 (285-274). EMU improved by 11-strokes in the second round to finish with a 274. The total was the second-lowest round in program history, only bettered by a 273 (66-67-68-72) at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 18, 2010.
Sophomore Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) was next on the list for Eastern Michigan, as he posted a also fired a personal-best 66 in the second round. Breault is tied for sixth with a 138 (72-66). Senior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) posted rounds of 73 and 70 for a 143 in a tie for 26th, while senior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) had a 144 (72-72) for 34th. Rounding out the lineup, Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) is in 40th-place with a 145 (72-73).
The two-day tournament continues Saturday, March 18, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. MT (10 a.m. ET). Fans can follow along with live scoring on Golfstat.com.
