Kyle Rodes set a new program record after shooting a 203
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University men's golf senior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) powered the Eagles to a second-place team finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate today, Feb. 27, in Goodyear, Ariz. Rodes finished atop the podium, carding a three-round 13-under par to total a 203 (69-64-70), breaking the program record of 206, accomplished by Korey Mahoney in 2005.
The senior continued his strong play after posting a 69 and 64 in the opening two rounds, as Rodes finished with the best 54-hole mark in EMU history. Needing to card a 72-or-better, he did just that, posting a final round 70 to surpass the previous record of 206 (71-65-70).
As a team, EMU finished second after Connecticut jumped into first after finishing with a 30-under par total of 834. Eastern finished the tournament at 23-under par 841 (275-277-289), marking the second time this season that the Green and White have finished runner-up. That mark also shattered the team's three round record of 850, set earlier this season at the EKU Intercollegiate, Sept. 17-18.
In addition to Rodes finishing in first-place, junior Nic Ross (Dundas, Onatio, Canada - Highland Secondary) also snagged a top-three finish, taking third after carding a final round 70 to finish at 10-under 206 (64-72-70). Behind the pair of Rodes and Ross, sophomore Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) wrapped up the three days of competition in a tie for 37th, notching a 76 to finish at one-over par 217 (71-70-76).
Finally, redshirt senior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich. - Lakeview (Grand Rapids C.C.)) finished in a tie for 51st after carding a final round 77, while senior Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Senator O'Connor) wrapped up with a 73 to finish in a tie for 69th.
The Eagles continue their season in just over two weeks, heading back to Arizona for the Desert Shootout, March 17-18, in Phoenix, Ariz.
