YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University women's gymnastics team rebounded from last week's road loss in a big way, turning in a 196.000 – 193.075 home victory over Towson, Monday, Feb. 20. Not only did the Eagles notch their best team score of the year, but they also tied the program record on bars and had their best floor rotation of the season.

"Our goal tonight was to hit 24-for-24, and not only did we do that, but we also improved on each routine," said Head Coach Sarah Brown. "Sometimes it can be tough to compete on a Monday after competing last Friday, but the team really thrived and did a great job. We had some great career highs and a number of excellent individual performances, so it was awesome to see those as well. We were also able to exhibition some gymnasts that gives us confidence for the future, as they gained some good experience."

Eastern kicked off the meet on vault, turning in a consistent six routines to finish with a 48.700. Sophomore Megan Hultgren (Rockford, Ill. – Sacred Heart Classical Center) and junior Julia Schwartz (Gilbert, Ariz. – Mesquite) paced the Green and White, each scoring a 9.775, with Hultgren's tying her career-best. Senior Kelsie Brooks (Winston, Ga. – Alexander) had a solid day as well, notching a 9.75, while sophomore Ciara Gresham (Shiloh, Ill. – Belleville) and senior Sydney McEachern (Winnipeg, Manitoba – Kelvin) each posted a 9.70. With one rotation down, Eastern led Towson, 48.700 – 48.625.

The Eagles then turned it up a notch on bars, tying the program record that was set earlier this year with a massive 49.250 as a team. Leading the charge was junior Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J. – Holmdel), who tied her career-best with a 9.925, marking the third time this season she has received that score. Behind her, fellow junior Catie Conrad (Brighton, Mich. – Brighton) also tied her personal-best, posting a 9.900 for the second time this season. Senior Natalie Gervais (Winnipeg, Manitoba – Sturgeon Heights) had a strong day as well, earning a 9.85, while fellow senior Lacey Rubin (Plainview, N.Y. – Plainview Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy) posted a 9.825. Rounding out EMU's top five was McEachern, who received a 9.750 after a solid routine. Heading into the third event, the Eagles increased the lead to eight tenths of a point, 97.950 – 97.150.

The Green and White then traveled to beam, going six-for-six once again and finishing with a solid event total of 48.900. Valentin continued her surge on beam, notching a 9.875 for the second time this season, with her score also being just shy of a personal-best. Rubin also had a strong performance, earning a 9.80, giving her six scores of 9.8 or better this season. From there, Conrad pitched in a 9.775, while Gervais added a 9.75. Gresham, competing beam for the third time this season, posted a 9.70, tying her career-best. With just one more event to go, Eastern pushed the lead to 146.850 – 145.875.

Finally, freshman Emili Dobronics (Orland Park, Ill. – Carl Sandburg) also had a career day, receiving a personal-best 9.800. With all the scores tallied, Eastern came out on top, 196.000 – 193.075, marking EMU's first 196 of the season.
