Andresson was unable to finish the race due to sickness

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) - Redshirt senior Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge) of the Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team had an unfortunate ending to his otherwise incredible career as an Eagle, as he was unable to finish the NCAA Championship race due to illness, Saturday, Nov. 18, in Louisville, Ky.

The Iceland native ran strong, battling toward the front of the pack early in the competition, however, Andresson dropped out just past the 4K mark to put an end to his season.

"Hlynur is certainly disappointed but I am so proud of this young man who has developed so much and done so much for EMU," said Head Coach John Goodridge.

Highlighted by an individual Mid-American Conference title at the beginning of this postseason, the redshirt senior went on to take runner-up in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional race, finishing just six seconds behind the regional champion and earning a bid to the national title race. Albeit the untimely happenings in the national event, Andresson will go down as one of the greatest cross country runners to come through EMU.

He ended his incredible career as an individual MAC champion, three-time First Team All-MAC selection while earning Second Team honors in 2015, three-time all-region honoree, and individual NCAA Championship qualifier.

This marks the end of an impressive 2017 campaign for the Eagles. Behind Goodridge, who earned his 12th MAC Coach of the Year award, the team pulled out its eighth consecutive MAC team title, had a student-athlete earn the individual crown, and saw the first EMU runner to earn MAC Freshman of the Year in the form of Owen Day (NRW, Germany-International School of Dusseldorf).
