EMU will travel to Buffalo for the first time since 2014

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Seeking its 72nd consecutive Mid-American Conference dual victory, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team will put its 19-year long streak on the line this weekend, Saturday, Jan. 28, when the Eagles travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on the University at Buffalo. The meeting will pit the two MAC foes against each other in dual action for the first time since Jan. 24, 2015.

Most recently, the Green and White soared past Wayne State and Tiffin in a tri-dual at Jones Natatorium, Jan. 24. Sophomores Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate) and Tom Gillis (Halifax, Nova Scotia-Citadel) continued their outstanding seasons. Tyson was victorious in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, while Gillis swept the diving events. Gillis posted the fourth-highest score in the MAC this season on the 1-meter, ultimately earning MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honors.

On the other side, the Bulls welcome the Eagles to Buffalo, following a 177-119 win over Miami, Jan. 21. UB finished first in all but two swimming events, and claimed three of the top four spots on the springboard in both the 1 and 3 meter. Prior to tangling with the Green and White, the Bulls will host St. Bonaventure, Jan. 27.

The last time the Eagles and Bulls squared off, EMU came out on top, 187-107, in Ypsilanti. Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson) won the 100 and 200 Backstroke, while Marcin Rzyski (Olsztyn, Poland -Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace #4) racked up wins in the 200 Butterfly and 500 Freestyle. Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil) also posted a pair of wins, securing first-place on both the 1 and 3 meter dive. Saturday's showdown will mark the first time Eastern makes the trek east since the 2014 MAC Championships, where the Eagles finished runner-up, edging out third-place Buffalo, 682-657.

Action inside of Alumni Arena Natatorium between EMU and UB is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
