UNIVERSITY Park, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – After firing an opening round 297 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team turned in a 288 to finish the opening day with a cumulative score of 585 in seventh place. The tournament is being hosted by Penn State University at the par-71, 7,202-yard PSU Blue Course.
Senior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) led the Eagles with a score of even-par 142 (72-70). White, who is in 10th, shot a 72 in round one and a 70 in round two. Freshman Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) is tied for 24th with a 146 (71-75). Junior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) finished the day with a 147 (76-71) while Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) notched scores of 78 and 72 for 42nd-place at 150. Rounding out the lineup, Nick Park (Howell, Mich.-Howell-Oakland) is tied for 55th with a 36-hole tally of 155 (78-77).
Playing as an individual, junior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) resides in a tie for 37th after an opening day 149 (77-72).
Penn State sits atop the leader board with a two-round score of six-under 562 (279-283). West Virginia is in second place with a 568 (284-284) followed by Xavier (572), Connecticut (575), and Rutgers (576). Jose Montano of Xavier leads the tournament with a score of six-under par 136. Montano used a tournament-low round of 66 in round one and followed it up with a 70 to close the day.
Tomorrow's final round will begin with tees times for EMU beginning at at 9:24 a.m.
