Women's Golf Tied for Fourth After Day One of Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) -- After the first day of action at the 2016 Rio Verde Invitational, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is tied for fourth in the 18-team field. The Eagles shot a first round 300 and have a pair of teammates inside the top 15 spots on the par 72, 6,215-yard White Wing Golf Course.
Bradley and Toledo are tied for the lead at 10-over 298, one stroke ahead of Northern Arizona. Xavier's Hanna Lee, Bradley's Danielle Lemek and Wichita State's Gavrilla Arya each carded an opening round 71 to hold down the top on the individual leaderboard.
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) notched an opening round 73 for a ninth-place tie while Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) is in 11th with a 74. Sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) added a 76 in a for 32nd-place and Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) notched a 77 for 40th. Rounding out the lineup, freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) finished with an 82 in a tie for 84th.
Saturday's second round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. MT with a shotgun start.
