Women’s Golf Set for 14th Annual Rio Verde Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team heads west to the Grand Canyon State to participate in the 14th Annual Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz., Feb. 26-28. This year's field will be comprised of 16 teams with four out of five individual scores counting toward the team total each day.
The 54-hole tournament, hosted by Western Michigan, runs from Friday through Sunday on the White Wing Course at Rio Verde Country Club. Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com.
The event features eight Mid-American Conference programs: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan
The field also includes 2015 Champion Seton Hall along with Arkansas State, Illinois State, Little Rock, Missouri State, Northern Arizona, UMKC, Wichita State and Xavier..
The event was originally known as the East/West Rio Verde Invitational, the annual tournament is in its 14th year of competition. Last season, the Eagles shot a three-round total of 905 (303-301-301) to finish in fourth-place.
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) will lead the lineup for the Eagles, followed by sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne). In the No. 3 and 4 spots will be Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) and Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo), while freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) will round out the lineup set to start on Friday, Feb. 26.
