MOBILE, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team sits in ninth place after posting a team score of 586 (291-295) during the opening day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate on the par 72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course. Sophomore Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and freshman Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) are tied for 26th place with a 146.
No. 4 ranked Auburn is the overall leader at 16-under par with Chattanooga in second at eight-under and Georgia State in third at two-under par. No. 2 Wake Forest and Kansas State round out the top five. Auburn's Michael Johnson leads at -10. South Alabama's Peter Staalbo is in second at six-under, while Georgia State 's J.J. Grey and Auburn's Matt Gilchrest are tied for third at five-under.
Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) fired rounds of 71 and 76 for 32nd at 147. Rounding out the lineup, juniors Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) posted a 149 (74-75) and a 151 (77-74), respectively.
Also, taking part in the USA Individual Tournament, redshirt sophomore Nick Park (Howell, Mich.-Howell-Oakland) is in 32nd after an opening day total of 161 (73-88)
The final round is a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Eagles, paired with host South Alabama and Mississippi State, open on holes 8-11.
