Green and White Set to Send a Limited Number of Athletes to Allendale, Mich.

The team will have a small contingent in attendance at the GVSU Tune-Up
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — With the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships just around the corner, the Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team will send a limited number of athletes to the GVSU Tune-Up, tomorrow, Feb. 19. The event will give the Eagles one final opportunity to gain experience in a meet-environment before the conference championship.
Last weekend, the team was split up among four different meets. At the GVSU Big Meet, Feb. 12, senior Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa. - Greater Latrobe Senior) took home the bronze in the 400m dash, clocking in at 47.88. Redshirt sophomores Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason) and Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland – Mountain Ridge) both had solid races in the mile, taking third and fourth with personal-best times of 4:06.43 and 4:06.46, respectively. From there, redshirt sophomore Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) finished second in the 3000m with a time of 8:20.95, which was also a career-best.
Sophomore Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) ran in the 3000m, setting a personal-best with a time of 8:08.59 at the Iowa State Classic, Feb. 12. Additionally, the team had a number of student-athletes at the Findlay Indoor Open & Elite Throws Competition. Redshirt senior Solomon Simmons (Murrieta, Calif. - Murrieta Valley) took home gold in the 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.13. In the shot put, sophomore Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio – Medina) took home second-place honors, finishing with a mark of 15.97 meters/ 52 feet 4.75-inches. The highlight of the day, however, came in the elite weight throw. Redshirt junior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio - Sandusky) further distanced himself as the top weight thrower in EMU history, notching a new mark of 21.84 meters/ 71 feet 8-inches.
