NEW ORLEANS, La (EMUEagles.com) - After securing a very impressive third-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational this past week, Sept. 30, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team lept into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, today, Oct. 4, debuting at No. 16. This marks the first time that the Eagles have been ranked in the poll since 1996.
After beating a slew of ranked teams in South Bend, the Green and White jumped from receiving votes in the poll all the way to No. 16 in the nation with 175 points. EMU sits just one spot behind BYU, and one spot ahead of Yale. Eastern was the only Mid-American Conference school to be ranked within the top-30. This marks the first time that the squad has been ranked in the poll this season, as they were receiving votes last week after their win at the Commodore Classic, Sept. 17.
In addition, the Eagles were also listed within FloTrack's Saucony Flo50 Women's Team Cross Country Rankings. Yesterday, Oct. 3, FloTrack slotted Eastern Michigan as No. 16 in the nation, one spot behind BYU and one spot ahead of defending NCAA Champions New Mexico. The Green and White were also the only MAC school to be listed within the top-25.
The Eagles are free of competition this week, allowing for futher development and improvement as the postseason approaches. Next week, however, Eastern will head to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pre-Nationals Invitational, Oct. 15, hosted by Indiana State.
