Rodes Tied for Ninth, Eagles In Fifth at Firestone Invitational

AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior men's golfer Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) fired back-to-back rounds under-par an sits in a tie for ninth-place after the opening day of The Firestone Invitational. Rodes, the Mid-American Conference's reigning Golfer of the Week, posted rounds of 69 and 71 for a two round total of 140, three strokes off the lead held by the University of Cincinnati's Austin Squires (69-68=137).
As a team, the Eagles carded an opening day score of 568 (286-282) while Illinois State Universty holds down the top spot with a 36-hole tally of 562 (284-278) on the par 72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club-North Course.
Senior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) finished the day in a tie for 24th-place at 143 (73-70). Sophomore Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) is just one shot back in 29th with a 144 (72-72). Rounding out the lineup, sophomore Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) and senior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) posted a 146 (77-69) and a 148 (72-76), respectively.
Senior Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) managed rounds of 74 and 72 for an opening day tally of 146 as an individual.
Eastern Michigan will complete play at the Firestone Intercollegiate with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
