AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's senior men's golfer Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) might be playing some of the best golf of his career, as he fired a 54-hole tally of 209 to finish in a tie for the runner-up spot at the 2016 Firestone Invitational with a seven-under on the par 72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club-North Course.
Rodes carded rounds of 69, 71 and 69 to finish four shots behind Cincinnati's Austin Squires at 11-under par 205. The runner-up finish was the third of Ross' career and it marked the back-to-back tournaments that the Plymouth, Mich. native had finished in second-place. All told, 22 players finished at par-or-better for the two-day tournament.
As a team, the Eagles finished the final round with a 294 in fifth-place at two-under par. Cincinnati won the tournament with a 850 as Illinois State (853) and host Akron (856) followed close behind. On the year, Eastern Michigan is 37-8 in the team head-to-head categories with a trio of top five finishes in its three tournaments played.
Junior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) was second for EMU in a tie for 23rd with a 217 (72-72-73).
