YPSILANTI, Mich. -- On the heels of two dual wins, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving returns home for a senior day battle with Bowling Green State University, Jan. 29. The battle with the Falcons marks the final dual of the season for the Eagles.
SENIOR DAY CELEBRATION AHEAD: Friday's dual with Bowling Green marks the last time seniors Clarice Daniel, Becca Detro, and Mary Kate MacLean will compete in Jones Natatorium. Over the course of their careers, the trio has etched their names into the Eastern Michigan record book while also leading the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships last season. Together, the three have combined for seven EMU top-performances.
FACING THE FALCONS: Bowling Green travels to Jones Natatorium boasting a 4-1 record in duals, highlighted by a 2-0 mark against Mid-American Conference opponents under the direction of first year Head Coach Matt Ense.
Victoria Griffin has led the Falcons this season as one of the top freestyle swimmers in the Mid-American Conference. Griffin's best times of the season rank in the top-five in the MAC in three different events. She owns the fourth best time in the 50 Free, the third ranked time in the 100 Free, and has turned in the fastest race by a MAC swimmer in the 200 Free this season. Griffin will face a tall task in the Eagles, having to square off against the veteran duo of Becca Detro and Mary Kate MacLean on senior day. Detro bested Griffin in the 200 Free at last season's MAC Championships while MacLean and Griffin battled in a pair of photo finishes.
In addition to Griffin, the Eagles one-two breaststroke punch will square off against Bowling Green's quick duo. BGSU's Kristin Filby and Daniela Carrillo will attempt to tame the Eagles' Delaney Duncan and Genna Worthley, who are coming off of a dominating effort this past weekend. In the 100 Breast, Carrillo and Filby have turned in the conference third and fourth top times, respectively. Meanwhile, Carrillo holds the Falcons top-time in the 200 Breast, while Filby's best time ranks fourth.
VERSUS BOWLING GREEN: Friday evening's meeting will be the 20th time the two squads have squared off since the 1996-97 season. The Green and White hold the upperhand, 17-2, over the past two decades but the Falcons got the best of the Eagles in the last meeting. The Falcons handed the Eagles a 155-145 setback, Nov. 8, 2014, despite EMU coming away with wins in seven of the 16 events. The loss snapped a streak of 17 consecutive dual wins over BGSU, dating back to the 1996-97 campaign.
LINKS BETWEEN THE TWO: When the Falcons visit Jones Natatorium this weekend, BGSU Head Coach Matt Ense will find himself in unchartered territory, coaching from the deck as opposed to donning the Green and White. A four-year letter winner for EMU Head Coach Peter Linn, Ense was a five-time Mid-American Conference Champion as part of the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team. A MAC Scholar Athlete during his collegiate days, Ense competed at the 2000 US Olympic Trails, finishing ninth in the 5000.
MAKE THAT NINE STRAIGHT: With Saturday's 158-142 win over the University of Akron, Jan. 23, the Eagles extended their win streak over the Zips to nine consecutive victories. Head Coach Peter Linn registered his 250th career dual win while junior Grace Van Allen recorded three individual first place finishes. The Eagles won the first six events, including claiming the top two spots in the 1000 Free, 200 Free, 100 Breast, and 200 Breast before using a win in the 400 Free Relay to secure the Mid-American Conference win.
SITTING AT THE TOP: After this past weekend, a pair of EMU distance swimmers find themselves ranked atop the Mid-American Conference's best times in the 1000 Freestyle. Freshman Nicole Swartz held the top time for nearly three months, after touching in with a time of 10:15.95 back in October. Over the weekend, Swartz was bumped down to second as sophomore Sarah Dombkowski claimed the top time. Touching in with a conference-best and season-best, 10:09.35, Dombkowski bested Swartz's time by more than six seconds, Jan. 22, against Wayne State. Additionally, the Canton, Mich. product's time is more than 10 seconds faster than any other team's top performance this season.
EAGLES CRUISE TO WIN OVER WAYNE STATE: Winning all but one event on the afternoon, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team cruised to a 150-86 win over Wayne State University, Jan. 22, in Jones Natatorium. The Eagles won the first 11 events en route to the non-conference dual victory. Sophomore Alli Shereda and junior Sierra Wagner won two events each to pace the Green and White.
DIVERS DELIVER, DOMINATE WAYNE STATE: Eastern Michigan's youthful diving squad claimed five top-three finishes against Wayne State, Jan. 22. Sophomore Alli Shereda swept the events, winning both the 1 and 3-meter dives with exceptional scores to lead the Green and White. Meanwhile, sophomore Emily Tubbs claimed second in both events and freshman Gabrielle Mace capped a day full of career-bests to take third in the 1-meter.

Additionally, the wins move Linn's total coaching record to 250-94, good for a .727 winning percentage.
