YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
Returning home after a 1-1 weekend in Indiana, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team is set to host Wayne State University in non-conference competition for senior day, Friday, Jan. 22. The dual with the Warriors marks the last home regular season competition of the season for the Eagles.

SENIOR DAY SLATED FOR FRIDAY:  Friday's dual with Wayne State, Jan. 22, will see the careers of seven seniors recognized. While Dylan Crompton, Krzysztof Gilski, Erik Gissen, Andrew Henry, Chris Hodges, Miles MacDonald, and Brendan O'Shea will be part of the Mid-American Conference Championships in March, this weekend's meeting with the Warriors marks the last regular-season home competition of their careers. As a senior class, the group has never lost a Mid-American Conference dual and has been a part of two MAC Championship squads.

A QUICK LOOK AT THE WARRIORS:  Wayne State travels to Jones Natatorium after a conference win over Findlay, Jan. 15. The Warriors 166-111 victory moved their dual record to 3-1 on the season. A NCAA Division II institution, Wayne State's other run-in with a Division I squad came back in October when the Warriors dropped a 178-116 dual to Oakland.
Rasmus Olsen and Jayson Hansen have been consistent performers for the Warriors and will look to build off of their showings at the EMU Invitational. Olsen placed second in the 100 Butterfly before winning the 200 Fly in December. A rematch of the Dec. 5 meeting will likely pit Olsen against EMU's Jake Tyson, Connor Johnson, and Marcin Rzyski. As for Hansen, he will face a tall task in EMU's Chris Hodges and Kyle Aerne. Hodges won both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke at the EMU Invite while Hansen posted third and second place finishes, respectively.

RECENT RUN-INS WITH WAYNE STATE:  Eastern and Wayne State have tangled nine times in the past decade, with the Eagles winning the latest meeting by a final of 194-105.  In fact, the Eagles hold a 9-0 ledger against the Warriors since the 2005-06 season. While Friday's competition marks the first time the Eagles will take on the Warriors in dual action this year, the two squads battled earlier this season at the EMU Invitational. Eastern won the invite, totaling 1252 points, while Wayne State placed second.

GILLIS STEPS IT UP ON THE SPRINGBOARD:  Freshman Tom Gillis turned in some of his best performances to-date over the weekend as the Eagles battled Purdue and Ball State. In EMU's first dual of the weekend, Gillis did not shy away from the talented Boilermakers' diving team. After a fourth place finish in the 3-meter, Gillis came back to claim third place in the 1-meter with a score of 298.20. Continuing his hot streak, Gillis swept the diving events, Jan. 16, against the Cardinals. In the 1-meter, the Halifax, Nova Scotia product turned in a score of 306.30, nearly 100 points better than the opposition to earn the top spot. Gillis closed out his weekened with a season-best 333.98 in the 3-meter for his second career win.

DEPTH, BALANCE LEAD EAGLES IN WIN OVER BALL STATE:  Nine different Eagles registered wins in Eastern Michigan's 168-118 win over Ball State, Jan. 16. In total, EMU won 14 of 16 events on the day, highlighted by sweeps of the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke. Junior Cole Bateman and freshman Tom Gillis led the way, recording two wins apiece. Bateman won the 100 Backstroke and 200 Individual Medley while Gillis swept the springboard events. With the win, the Green and White have won 21 consecutive meetings against the Cardinals.

CLOSING IN ON 250:  Head Coach Peter Linn's 27-year tenure at Eastern Michigan has guided the Eagles to a number of successes over the years. Following EMU's weekend split, Linn's career record on the women's side sits at 61-36 while he owns a 186-58 at helm for the men. Additionally, the win moves Linn's total coaching record to 247-94,  good for a .724 winning percentage. With plenty of opportunities on the schedule for each of Linn's teams, he could reach the 250 win mark this season.
