The Eagles are prepared to go up against a talented field, including No. 1 New Mexico

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — For the fourth consecutive year, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team will be traveling to South Bend, Ind. for the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Oct. 2. The season is nearly at the halfway-mark at this point, with the Mid-American Conference Championships, Oct. 31, fast approaching.

The Eagles continued their season last week at the Virginia Invitational, Sept. 26, with a sixth-place team finish. Sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) and senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - Univ. of Leuven) paced the Green and White, finishing in 20th and 24th place, respectively. Additionally, junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia) placed 31st and  freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) finished in 48th, giving the Eagles a total of four top-50 harriers.

Head Coach Sue Parks believes that her team will gain good experience at this meet, as a number of ranked programs will be in attendance. When discussing the race, she stated "We're excited to face an elite field at Notre Dame. There are a number of ranked teams competing and it will be a good experience for our athletes to race against top competition. We weren't pleased with our race last weekend at Virginia so this will be a great chance for us to redeem ourselves and have a great showing heading into an off week."

The Green and White will race in the blue division, which begins at 2 p.m. Other schools in this group include Arizona State, Bradley, Butler, Clemson, Colorado State, Eastern Kentucky, Florida, Idaho State, Illinois State, Iowa, Miami (OH), Missouri, No. 14 NC State, No. 1 New Mexico, Northwestern, No. 20 Notre Dame, Penn, Purdue, SMU, Texas A&M, Utah, UTEP, and No. 22 Vanderbilt. The 2 p.m. race will be held at Burke Memorial Golf Course and the women will be running a 5,000-meter race.
