Nic Ross Finishes as the Runner-up at Gridiron Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's sophomore Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) fired a career-low 54-hole tally to finish in a four-way tie for the runner-up spot at the 2015 Fighting Irish Golf Classic with a three-under par 210 at the Warren Golf Course.
Ross carded rounds of 69, 70 and 71 to finish three shots behind St. Mary's Jonathan De Los Reye at six-under-par (207). The runner-up finish was the first of Ross' career and his second career top 10 showing. Fourteen players finished at even par or better.
As a team, the Eagles finished the final round with a 294 in a tie for 10th with Ball State University at 24-over-par. Notre Dame and Saint Mary's finished as co-champions. Saint Mary's topped the Irish by one shot in Tuesday's round to join them at 850 (-2) for the tournament. Wofford (+7) was third, followed by Utah State (+9) and Loyola (Md.) (+15).
Junior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) was second for EMU in a tie for 23rd with a 217 (75-70-72). Senior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) improved with a 73 on Tuesday to take 45th with a 225 (74-78-73) while junior Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) managed a 228 (79-71-78) in 53rd.
Junior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.) rounded out the scoring in 61st with a two-day mark of 232 (79-74-79). Playing as an individual, Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) finished 63rd in his first collegiate event with a 233 (76-78-79).
Eastern Michigan will be back in action Friday, Sept. 25, when they travel to Burlington, Iowa, for the Golfweek's Men's Conference Challenge at Spirit Hollow Golf Course.
