EMU Alumnus Eric Alejandro Races at World Championships

Eric Alejandro competed in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles for Puerto Rico
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eric Alejandro, an Eastern Michigan University graduate from 2008, recently represented Puerto Rico on the international stage by racing in the 400m Intermediate Hurdles at the 2015 IAAF World Championships. The event, which is currently taking place in Beijing, China from August 22-30, includes athletes from numerous countries around the globe.
Alejandro, who was plagued by injuries throughout the year, finished with a mark of 49.94 seconds, good enough for 9th place in his heat. Internationally, Eric has represented Puerto Rico on numerous occassions. He qualified to the 2012 Olympics, competing in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.15 seconds. In addition, the EMU graduate took home the gold at the 2012 Ibero-American Championships in the 400m hurdles with a time of 49.36 seconds. He also took home a pair of silver medals in 2014 at the Ibero-American Championships and Central American & Caribbean Games.
While a member of the EMU Track & Field team, he was a four-time letter winner who qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2007. There, he competed in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 19th overall with at time of 52.51 seconds. Additionally, Eric earned a second place finish at the 2007 MAC Championships in the 110-meter hurdles, receiving second-team ALL-MAC honors in the process. In 2006, he was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team at the Outdoor MAC Championships, as well as the third-place finisher in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles.
