CHARDON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will compete at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championship Friday through Sunday, May 1-3, at the Mayfield Sand Ridge Club – Sand Ridge located in Chardon, Ohio. The University of Akron will host the three-day, 72-hole event for the nine MAC schools which sponsor men's golf – Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Toledo.
The Green and White will tee off at 9:12 a.m. Friday morning and will be paired with MAC West rival Toledo. EMU is set to start the second round, also at the first tee, at 1:42 p.m. Rounds three and four are set for Saturday and Sunday, respectively, beginning at 11 a.m. Fans can follow all the action via Golfstat Live Scoring.
The league's men's golf championship will be held at Mayfield Sand Ridge Club for the first time ever. The 7,245-yard, par-72 course designed by Tom Fazio has been ranked as high as 52nd among America's Greatest Golf Courses by Golf Digest. In its brief history, Sand Ridge has hosted numerous qualifiers to such prestigious tournaments as the U.S. Open, the Senior and Junior Amateur, and, most recently, the NCAA Division I Men's Regional in 2006.
The Eagles finished fourth at the 2014 MAC Championship posting a three-day cumulative score of 1,177 (284-300-303-290). Junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) paced the Green and White with a five-over par 293 (71-76-78-68) to finish in eighth-place.
Kent State has won six consecutive MAC Championships, and eight of the last 10. EMU was the last team to edge the Golden Flashes, winning the tournament in 2007 and 2008. The two universities account for the last 10 MAC Championships.
The Golden Flashes are ranked No. 94 in Golfstat's national rankings followed by Miami (108), Eastern Michigan (134), Toledo (149), Northern Illinois (155), Akron (172), Ball State (173), Bowling Green (185) and Ohio (219).
Playing this weekend for EMU will be White, senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer), junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.), freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) and sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth).
The winner will receive the MAC's automatic bid to one of six NCAA Regional sites May 15-17. The 2015 regional sites are: Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind. (Ball State), UNC's Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. (UNC), the Farms Golf Club in San Diego, Calif. (UC San Diego), the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas (Texas Tech), the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. (Washington) and the The Course at Yale (Yale).
The NCAA finals are scheduled to begin on May 29 and will be played at The Concession Club in Bradenton, Fla.
