Men's Golf Finishes as Runner-Up at Rutherford Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's golfers combined for a two-day total of 876 (285-294-297) for a second-place finish and the duo of junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) and senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) each notched top-five finishes on the final day of the Rutherford Intercollegiate on the the par-71, 7,183-yard PSU Blue Course.

Multer led the Eagles with a career-best fourth place finish at two-over 215 (68-73-74). It marked the second consecutive tournament the Battle Creek, Mich. native had turned in a top-10 showing, while his opening round 68 was a new career 18-hole low for the junior. Blair totaled a 216 (73-70-73) to place inside the top-10 for the second time in his career with a tie for fifth-place.

Freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) managed a 222 (73-72-77) to tie for 16th, while junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) posted a 224 (71-79-74) in 21st. Rounding out the scoring, sophomore Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) finished in 60th with a 236 (78-82-76). Playing as an individual, sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) notched rounds of 81, 74 and 75 for 40th-place.

Host Penn State won the 39th annual event by an eight-stroke margin after posting an 868 (296-276-296). A total of four Nittany Lions finished in the top 10 of the 75-player field. Binghamton's Jack Sedgewick and Georgetown's Sam Madsen tied for medalist honors with a 212.

Eastern Michigan has a week off before traveling to Chardon, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships, May 1-3, at the Mayfield Sand Ridge Club.
