The Varsity Four squad was the top-finisher on the weekend at the annual Lubbers Cup

SPRING LAKE, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Varsity Four squad capped off a stellar weekend for the Eastern Michigan University rowing team, earning the Michaud Family Cup, which is awarded to the top women's four team, at the 20th Annual Don Lubbers Cup Sunday, April 12.

"The Varsity made huge strides this weekend," stated Head Coach Kemp Savage. "They cut the gap by 12 seconds to the winner GVSU. The Varsity Four capped a great weekend, winning the Michaud Family Cup for the top women's four team in the regatta. The novice boat cut the gap in their final race as well."

After winning both of its races on Saturday afternoon, the Varsity Four team nabbed a second-place finish in its final race Sunday with a time of 7:49.16. The team crossed the line just a mere seven seconds behind Northwestern, but were still able to garner the championship trophy for the weekend.

In the Varsity Eight race, the Green and White picked up a second-place finish after three wins on Saturday. The team improved by 12 seconds from a year ago with a time of 6:57.80 and place third overall in the event.

Finally, the Novice Eight team completed its second regatta of the 2015 season with a time of 7:03.06, taking an entire minute off its time from just a few weeks ago.

"I am excited to take this momentum into next weekend in Buffalo for the Harvey Cup," noted Savage.

The Eagles will be back in action when they head to Buffalo, N.Y. for the annual Harvey Cup, hosted by the University at Buffalo Saturday, April 18.
