Eagles Tied for Fourth After First Day at River Landing Classic

WALLACE, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) –  Led by freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne), the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team opened play at the River Landing Classic in a share of fourth place after the first two rounds on the par-72, 6,082 yard River Landing Golf Course Saturday, April 11.
 
The Eagles are tied with co-hosts East Carolina University and UNC Wilmington in fourth place after posting a two-round score of 603. Delaware holds the team lead after the first two rounds after turning in a two-round score of 593. Old Dominion freshman Maggie Simmermacher enters the final round with the individual lead after posting a one-under-par score of 143 in the opening day of the tournament.

One of two Eagles in the top 20 through two rounds, Beck fashioned a 73 to begin the tournament before tallying a 75 in the second round. With a 148 score, she enters the final round in a tie for fourth place.

Redshirt-junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) currently holds a share of 18th place after firing a seven-over-par score of 151 (76-75) in the first two rounds. Sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich. -Plymouth) and  freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) are tied for 28th-place with a cumulative total of 153 on day one.

Senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) completed the Eagles' effort by firing a two-round total of 156, shooting an 82 and a 74.

The tournament will conclude Sunday, April 12, with an 18-hole round beginning at 8:45 a.m.
