Beck Posts Third Top 10 Showing at the River Landing Classic

WALLACE, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – Freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) tied for sixth and helped the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team to a sixth-place finish Sunday, April 12, at the River Landing Classic on the par 72, 6,082-yardRiver Landing Golf Course. Beck, who turned in her third top-10 performance of the season, equaled a career-low with a 222 (73-75-74) to finish six-stokes behind Columbia's Jacqueline Chulya Columbia at even-par (73-74-69=216).
As a team, the Eagles finished with a two-day total of 909 (307-296-306). EMU's final round tally of 306 was the fifth-best of any of the 12-teams playing. Columbia came-from-behind to win the tournament with a 886 (299-296-291) as Delaware (894), William & Mary (899), James Madison (904) and East Carolina (904) rounded out the top-five.
Redshirt-junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) was the second EMU student-athlete to finish inside the top-20, posting a 227 (76-75-76) for an 18th-place tie. Sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich. -Plymouth) took home 21st with a 228 (77-76-75) while freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) posted a 236 (81-72-83) for 40th. Senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) completed the Eagles' effort, shooting a 237 (72-74-81) for 44th-place.
Eastern Michigan has one week off before traveling to Lebanon, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 24-26, at Shaker Run Golf Club.
