LEBANON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – With 18 holes in the books at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championship, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in a tie with the University of Akron for fifth-place after shooting a 315. The day began with a frost delay before players enjoyed sunshine and temperatures in the mid-50s for the remainder of the round. Ohio University leads the way after posting a 302 at the par-72, 6,191-yard Shaker Run Golf Club course.

The Bobcats hold a two-stroke lead heading into day two, that total includes holding down four of the tournament's top 10 slots. Sixteen-time defending MAC champion Kent State is in second-place with a score of 304, followed by Toledo (309), Western Michigan (312), EMU (315), Akron (315), Northern Illinois (320), Bowling Green (328), Ball State (332) and Central Michigan (342).

Individually, Kent State's Wad Phaewchimplee holds down the top-spot on the leaderboard with an opening round 72. No other player in the field was able to crack par during the round as Ohio's Angela Codian and KSU's Josee Doyon are two strokes back with a 74.

Redshirt-senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) paced the EMU attack with a five-over 77 for a six-way tie for 10th. Redshirt-junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) and sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) are tied for 18th with identical marks of 79.

Playing in their first MAC Championship, freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) opened with an 80 for 21st-place while freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) fired an 83 for 36th.
