LEBANON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team inched its way closer to the top spot in the race for the 2015 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship Saturday, April 26. The Eagles posted a 307 to move into a tie with Ohio University for second-place with a 622 (315-307) following the second round at the par-72, 6,191-yard Shaker Run Golf Club course.

The Eagles, who carded the third-lowest round of the day, sit 13 strokes back of leader Kent State University (609) and will need a solid team effort on Sunday in order to unseat the defending conference champions. EMU entered the day tied for fifth-place with Akron behind Ohio, Kent State, Toledo and Western Michigan. However, today the Eagles were 13 strokes better than the Bobcats, who relinquished their day one lead. Toledo (626), Akron (628), Bowling Green (634), Western Michigan (635), Northern Illinois (636), Ball State (661) and Central Michigan (693) complete the team standings.

All five Eagles are ranked in the top 25 including redshirt-senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) who carded a round of 78 to reside in a tie for eighth-place with a 36-hole total of 155 (77-78). Redshirt-junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) and freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) are tied for 10th with a two-day total of 156. Sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) managed a 157 (79-78) for the 14th spot while freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) is tied for 22nd after a 159 (83-76).

Battling wind and rain all round long, no player was able to shoot a round of par-or-better. KSU's Josee Doyon moved into the overall lead with a 148 (74-74) followed by teammate Wad Phaewchimplee (72-77=149).

The third and final round of the 2015 MAC Women's Golf Championship will get underway at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 26. Following competition MAC Golfer, Freshman, Coach and Sportswomen of the Year, First and Second Team All-MAC and the All-Tournament team will be announced.
