EMU Rowing Heads to Spring Lake for Annual Lubbers Cup

The Eagles are set to participate in their first in-state regatta of the 2015 season

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University rowing team will head to Spring Lake, Mich. for the annual Don Lubbers Cup Regatta at the Spring Lake Yacht Club Saturday, April 11- Sunday, April 12.
The Lubbers Cup, named after former Grand Valley State University president, Arend D. Lubbers, features hundreds of student-athletes and some of the top rowing teams from the Midwest. Since its origin in 1995, the Lubbers Cup Regatta has grown into an event that attracts over 500 student-athletes to the Spring Lake Yacht Club each year.
The Eagles have participated in the Lubbers Cup the past five seasons, with their best finish coming in both the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The Green and White took second in the Women's Eight Second Level both seasons, crossing the line at 8:20.30 in the 2010 campaign. The Eagles also took second in the Varsity 8 Grand Finale Nancy Lubbers Cup in the 2012 season with a time of 7:41.90, while finishing second in the Eight Second Level Brie Jedlic Cup in the 2011 campaign.
This season Eastern will take on teams from Cincinnati, Drake, Grand Valley, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue and Robert Morris.
Following the weekend regatta, the Eagles will head to Buffalo, N.Y. for the annual Harvey Cup, hosted by the University at Buffalo Saturday, April 18.
