Women's Golf Wins Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate

The Eagles picked up their second tournament victory of 2014-15 with a three-round total of 917
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team picked up its first victory of 2015 and its second of the 2014-15 season, winning the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate, shooting a 917 (312-304-301) on the par 72, 5,962-yard Plantation Course at the Kingsmill Resort Tuesday, March 31.
Sitting in third after day one, the Eagles used a tournament-best 301 in the final round to take the victory. Eastern took the top spot in the tournament after shooting nine strokes better than Delaware, which posted a 310 in the final round, while William & Mary placed third with a three-round total of 921 (305-309-307).
Overall, the victory marked the 19th title in the program's history. It is also the 15th team championship during Head Coach Sandy Wagner's 10-year tenure and the second of the 2014-15 season as the Eagles took the title at the Cardinal Classic, Sept. 23, 2014.
EMU was paced by redshirt-senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam), who finished in a tie for fourth, shooting a 228 (74-78-76) through three rounds, while the Green and White recorded one more final top-10 finish as Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) tied for seventh with a 229 (79-75-75).
Freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Deblin Coffman) moved up eight spots after shooting a 74 in the final round for a three-round total of 231 (82-75-74) and a 13th-place finish, while Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) tied for 17th overall with a 232 (80-76-76). Freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) rounded out the scoring for the Green and White, shooting a 235 (79-80-76) to tie for 22nd overall.
The Eagles will be back in action Saturday, April 11, when they travel to Wallace, N.C. for the River Landing Classic. The two- day tournament will conclude Sunday, April. 12.
