LAKE WORTH, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University's men's golfer Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) turned in a 17th-place finish in a field of 104 players at the FAU Slomin Autism Championship, March 27-29, on the par 71, 6,876 yard Fountains Country Club North course.
 
The freshman carded scores of 77, 71 and 71 for a 219 to become one of only eight players in the field to have two rounds of par-or-better. The finish was also his first career top-20 showing, while the 54-hole total is the second-best tally of his young collegiate career.
 
The Eagles tied with Georgetown for 12th in the field of 20 teams with a cumulative total of 890 (299-296-295) . EMU placed ahead of Middle Tennessee State (892), Xavier (894), Rhode Island (902), Bethune-Cookman (907) and Morehead State (915). The Eagles trailed 11th-place Florida Atlantic by just two strokes at 888.
 
Other Eastern Michigan scores included: senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) in 26th place with rounds of 78-72-70=220 and junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) with rounds of 72-79-76=227 for a spot in 65th-place. Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) and Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) both tied for 83rd with a 231.
 
Ryan Stowash was the medalist at 208 to lead Central Florida to the title with a score of 863. Connecticut (876), DePaul (877), Florida Gulf Coast (880), Hartford and Jacksonville State (882) rounded out the top-6.
 
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham and crew return to action at the Hoosier Invitational, April 11-12, in Bloomington, Ind.
