Weather Hinders Round One Play at FAU Slomin Autism Championship

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team began play at the 2015 Florida Atlantic University Slomin Autism Championship on Friday, March 27, on the par 71, 6,876 yard Fountains Country Club North Course. The Eagles carded a 299 total in the opening round and still have 18 holes each on Saturday and Sunday.

The day started with a weather delay and ended the same way as four teams were not able to complete their round.

UCF grabbed the lead after the first round with a five-under par 279. Connecticut is second at two-over par followed by host Florida Atlantic and East Carolina at five-over par. However, UConn, FAU and ECU all still have holes to play.

Junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) paced the Eagles on Friday with a one-over par 72. Multer is tied for 23rd while sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) is in a tie for 44th after turning in a 74. Junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) is tied for 66th with a 76.

Freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) is tied for 76th after registering a 77. Senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) had a 78 and is tied for 87th-place.

During the day, former EMU golfer James Applegate visited with the team. Applegate is the founder of the program's James Applegate Men's Golf Endowment, which helps allow the squad to play a competitive national schedule.

Eastern Michigan will play the second round on Saturday.
