EMU Softball Nab Extra-Inning Victory Over Georgia State

The Eagles avenged the loss to GSU earlier this season with a 10-9 extra-inning win
The Eagles (7-12) were led by Abi Clark who drove in three RBI, while Aoife Duffy and Taylor Wagner had two RBI apiece for the Green and White. Closer Lindsay Rich (6-9) earned the decision for EMU, pitching two innings and giving up just one run, while all four Eagle pitchers made an appearance in the game.
For Georgia State, both Kensey Caldwell and Mandy Blackwell had multi-RBI games, while four Panthers had multi-hit contests. In the circle, GSU tossed four different pitchers in the loss with closer Katie Worley (5-2) earning just her second loss of the season after defeating the Eagles earlier in the 2015 season.
For the second time in the day, the Eagles were the first to light up the scoreboard, notching three runs in the second inning. A fielder's choice and a throwing error put runners on first and second for Clark, who ripped a three-run homer over the right center field wall to put EMU 3-0 over the Panthers.
GSU used two hit batter and a double to center field to trail EMU by just one heading into the bottom of the third inning.
In the bottom of the third, Myranda Barnes led off the inning with a walk before Haley Hostetler laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position. A Panther error put runners on first and second for the Eagles, while Aoife Duffy laced a single to center field to score Barnes. Sophomore Taylor Wagner followed up the Duffy two-out single with a double to left center to bring in two runs for the Green and White, extending its lead to 6-2.
Georgia State put together a big fifth inning, using a walk and three-straight singles to score two runs bringing it within one of Eastern Michigan, 6-5, and forcing an EMU pitching change.
For the third time in the game the Eagles responded to the Panther runs in the bottom half of the inning when a Jenn Lucas double to center field followed by a Duffy single brought in two runs for the Green and White. The runs continued for Georgia State in the top of the sixth inning as it knotted the score at 8-8 with three runs on two hits and one EMU error.
Eastern took the lead for the second time in the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when three-straight two-out singles scored Barnes, but yet against the Panthers came back to score one run to send the game into extra innings.
With the international tiebreaker in play, the Green and White were able to shut down the Panthers before Katy Wyman was put on second in the bottom half of the inning. Wyman was able to steal third, while a Hostetler suicide squeeze plated the winning run for the Eagles.
Eastern Michigan will be back in action Saturday, March 21 when it takes on Georgia State and UMKC. Game one against the Panthers is slated for 10:30 a.m. followed by a 3:30 contest with the 'Roos.
