YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team has three athletes that have qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, and will compete Friday and Saturday, March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark.
After a tremendous indoor campaign that featured numerous Eagles earning spots in the EMU record books, eight performances stand out as they rank in the top-50 nationally. Highlighting the performances are the three qualifiers: Tyler Brown, Anthony Jones, and Donald Scott. Brown will compete in the 400m dash, in which he is ranked 12th in the nation in 46.26 seconds. Jones will appear in the weight throw, ranked 16th nationally with an EMU record throw of 21.39 meters/70 feet 2.25-inches. Ranked second in the nation in the triple jump, Scott's mark of 16.70 meters/54 feet 9.50-inches stands as both an EMU and Mid-American Conference record.
Scott has also seen immense success in the long jump; though not competing for a title in the event he is the No. 30 long jumper in the NCAA with a distance of 7.57 meters/24 feet 10-inches. Eastern has four other performances that fall within the top-50 of national marks. On the track, the 4x400m relay team of Cameron Bolton, Jeff Elam, Matthew Williams, and Mason Waynes sits at No. 28 in 3:09.12, and Willy Fink's breakout 3000m time of 7:57.14 ranks 36th. Additionally, heptathletes Solomon Ijah and Levi Selvig rank 25th and 46th in the multi-event.
The weight throw will be the first event for the Eagles, with Jones taking on the nation's best Friday at 7 p.m. Brown will kick off his slate with the prelims of the 400m Friday at 7:10 p.m. and will run the finals Saturday at 6:50 p.m. should he advance. Scott is slated to compete in the triple jump at 6 p.m. on Saturday. ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 13 and 14 starting at 7 p.m. ET.
