Women's Golf Finishes Fourth at Red Rocks Invitational

SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Behind the solid play of freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne), the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in fourth place at the Red Rocks Invitational with a 36-hole mark of 609 (303-306) Saturday, Feb. 28, here at the Oakcreek Country Club. Beck turned her first career top five showing with a two-day total of 146 (75-71) in a tie for third-place. Her final round 71 was her season-best, bettering a 74 in the opening round of the Cardinal Classic, Sept. 22-23, 2014.

Northern Arizona captured the team title in its own tournament as the Lumberjacks outlasted Cal Poly, which finished five strokes back in the team standings. Grand Canyon University finished third (606) followed by EMU in for fourth.

Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit and Nebraska-Omaha's Sophie Peters shared medalist honors with an even-par 144.

Sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) finished the event with a 151 (72-79) for a 15th-place tie. Redshirt-junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School), redshirt-junior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) and freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) all tied for 67th with a 158.

Competing as individuals, senior Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) finished tied for 28th with a 153 (77-76) while senior Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) posted rounds of 80 and 77 for a tie for 59th-place.

The Eagles will remain in the "Valley of the Sun," for the annual Rio Verde Invitational, March 13-15, at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Ariz.
