Murphy Tied for Second After Day One of Red Rocks

SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is in fifth place after the first day of the Red Rocks Invitational. The Eagles shot a 303 in the first round at the par-72 Oakcreek Country Club.

Sophomore Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) shot an even-par 72 in the first round and is tied for second place. Freshman Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) shot a three-over par 75 and is tied for 18th.

Redshirt-junior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) is tied for 40th (77) and redshirt-junior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) is tied for 58th (79). Round out the lineup, freshman Kylie Raines (Dublin, Ohio-Dublin Coffman) sits in a tie for 80th with an 81.

Playing as individuals, seniors Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) and Sylvie Williams (Christchurch, New Zealand-Christchurch Girls School-Lincoln) notched a 77 and an 80, respectively.

The tournament wraps up with 18 holes tomorrow.
