Women’s Golf to Take Part in Red Rocks Invitational

SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team will continue its spring season in Arizona, competing at the Red Rocks Invitational, Feb. 27-28. Northern Arizona University will host the Invitational at Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona.

The two-day event will consist of 36 holes of match play. Due to inclement weather the tournament has been moved up as the first round will be played Friday with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. MST. The second and final round will be Saturday at 11 a.m. MST, weather permitting.

The field for the 2015 Red Rocks Invitational will include 21 teams – host Northern Arizona, Arizona, British Columbia, Cal Poly, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Mesa CC, Nebraska-Omaha, New Mexico State, North Dakota, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Weber State and Wichita State.

Oakcreek Country Club, designed by the famous father and son team of Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent Jones Jr., can truly be described as a work of art. The par 72, 18-hole championship golf course (6,084 yards) is nestled among the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona with views beyond compare and the golf course design a masterpiece.

The Eagles last played in the event in 2012, as the team tied for fourth place out of 21 teams EMU's 618 (315-303) total score was only six strokes behind third-place Southern Utah. Toledo won the team event with a 605, followed by Cal State Northridge with a 609. Sarah Johnson was EMU's top finisher with a 150 (76-74) that put her in a six-way tie for sixth place.

This is 10th season that Northern Arizona has hosted the Red Rocks Invitational.
