Competition will be the final meet before the conference championships
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — With the 2015 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships just over a week away, Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team is making its final preparations in the search for a MAC title. The Eagles will remain close to home, traveling down Washtenaw Ave. to the University of Michigan for the Silverston Invitational Saturday, Feb. 21.
Eastern has been making its presence known on the national stage this year, as the team is just outside of national rankings in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) weekly poll, having moved up from 84th in the preseason poll to 26th in the country based on the latest Feb. 23 computer rankings. In preparation for the MAC Championships, Eastern will be looking to take down reigning MAC indoor champion, No. 14 Akron.
The Silverston Invitational is named in honor of Harold Silverston, a longtime head track and field timer at U-M. Silverston held the position under four different head coaches, and was also the head timer for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships when hosted by the Wolverines.
Field events are slated to start at 10:30 a.m., with track events beginning at 12:30 p.m. inside the U-M Indoor Track Building. Live results will be provided through cfpitiming.com.
