ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team wrapped up its final meet before the 2015 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, sending a small group to compete at the Silverston Invitational at the University of Michigan, Feb. 21.
The Eagles came away with four wins in the eight events in which they competed. In the weight throw, Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill.-Williamsville) set a personal record of more than three feet with a victorious mark of 18.89 meters/61 feet 11.75-inches. The throw not only qualifies Williams for the MAC Championships, but he also cracked the EMU all-time top-10 list, earning the eighth spot on the list.
On the track, freshman Brandon Bolden (Solon, Ohio-Solon) swept the 60m and 200m, while Teyland Avery (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Ottawa Hills) placed third in the pair of events. Bolden recorded a mark of 7.03 seconds in the 60m while Avery set personal record of 7.18 seconds, and the pair went on to record career marks in the 200m. Bolden paced the field in 22.13 seconds, while Avery's time of 23.39 seconds was good for third.
The final win came in the 60m hurdles, in which Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio-Fairfield Senior) led a sweep of the top-three spots. Lindsey punched his ticket to the conference championship in 8.19 seconds for the win, followed by Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) in 8.23 seconds and Cameron Jackson (Columbus, Ohio-Eastmoor Academy) in a personal-best 8.40 seconds.
Eastern also garnered a trio of runner-up finishes, with two coming on the field and once second-place finish on the track. In the pole vault, Dylan Stites (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) bested his career mark by almost two inches, finishing second with a jump of 4.80 meters/15 feet 9-inches. Taking sixth were Brett Lara (Chesterton, Ind.-Chesterton) and Levi Selvig (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing Community) at 4.35 meters/14 feet 3.25-inches, which marked an indoor personal record for Selvig. Pacing the Eagles in the triple jump was Chris Fischre (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing) with a jump of 13.04 meters/42 feet 9.50-inches, while Ryan Brumfield (Chester Springs, Pa.-Owen J. Robert) took third at 12.86 meters/42 feet 2.25-inches.
Stephen Sparks (Lancaster, Ohio-Lancaster) paced the Eagles in the 800m run, placing second in 1:55.66 and was followed closely by Jason Ervin (Farmington, Mich.-Farmington Hills) in 1:56.46 for fourth. Capping off the day's events, Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio-Medina) took fifth in the shot put with a launch of 14.85 meters/48 feet 8.75-inches.
The Eagles will take on the MAC next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28, when they travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. for the 2015 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
