YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -
The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team returns to the pool for the first time in three weeks to take part in the EMU Invitational, Dec. 4-5, in Jones Natatorium. The invite marks the last competition for the Eagles before the calendar flips to 2016.

RECENT RESULTS AT THE EMU INVITATIONAL:  This weekend's EMU Invitational marks the 11th time since the 2005-06 season that the Eagles have hosted the event. Eastern Michigan has celebrated much success in the event, winning the invite 9-of-10 years. Their lowest finish came during the 2012-13 season when EMU placed second behind Oakland University. The three-point margin marks the only time the Eagles have not won the event in the past ten years.
Senior Andrew Henry has enjoyed more than his fair share of success at the event during his career. Last season, Henry won the 200 Freestyle, placed third in the 200 Individual Medley and also helped the Eagles to  first place finishes in the 200 Free and 400 Medley Relay.
Henry is not the only Eagle with a history of strong performances at the EMU Invitational, as juniors Cole Bateman and Kyle Lichtenberg along with divers Alex Chan and Dan Gironza have excelled at the event. Bateman placed second in the 200 Backstroke, playing a pivotal role on the Green and White relay teams, while Lichtenberg took the top spot on the podium in the 1650 Free.
On the springboard, Chan and Gironza have been a 1-2 punch for the Eagles at the event. Gironza posted a score of 341.05 on the 1-meter on his way to a first place finish before taking third in the 3-meter with a score of 332.25. Competing in the 3-meter event, Chan posted a 356.10 to take second place as the Eagles swept the top three spots with Jordan Lessor finishing first.

NEW YEAR BRINGS ON NEW CHALLENGES:  The EMU Invitiational marks the last competition for the Eagles in the 2015 part of this season. After the calendar flips to 2016, the Eagles will take on a test they have not had to face yet this season - competing away from Jones Natatorium.
The Green and White open the new year with a pair of road competitions, including their first taste of Mid-American Conference action this season. The Eagles kick off the new year, Jan. 15, against Purdue. The dual will mark the third time this season Eastern Michigan has faced off against a Big Ten Conference opponent, holding a 1-1 record against B1G competition. A one-day turnaround will see the Eagles trek east for a MAC dual against Ball State University, Jan. 16.

DOWNED BY THE BUCKEYES:   Facing off against No. 8 Ohio State, Saturday, Nov. 14, in Jones Natatorium, the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team's veteran upperclassmen led the Eagles in a 203.5-96.5 setback. Despite a lopsided score against one of the nation's best teams, the Green and White saw plenty of strong performances.
Senior Andrew Henry claimed victory in the 200 Freestyle for the third time this season. Trailing at the midway point, Henry swam the final split nearly two seconds faster than anyone else to overtake Ohio State's Steffen Hillmer and earn the first place finish.
Senior Dylan Crompton later added a first place finish in the 50 Free to his day, edging out Mossimo Chavez with a time of 21.20. The win marked the first of the season for Crompton in the event.
Continuing the strong showing by the senior class, Chris Hodges posted a pair of top-three finishes. Besides also taking second in the 100 Breaststroke, Hodges opened his afternoon with a convincing win in the 200 Breast.
On the springboard junior Alex Chan continued his sensational season, posting a pair of 300+ scores to notch second and third place finishes in the diving events. Claiming third in the 3-meter event, Chan was beat out by Ohio State's Colin Zeng in the 1-meter. Scoring 365.40, Chan finished 1.43 points behind Zeng.

CLOSING IN ON 250:  Head Coach Peter Linn's 27-year tenure at Eastern Michigan has guided the Eagles to a number of successes over the years. Following EMU's sweep of Oakland, Linn's career record on the women's side sits at 61-36 while he owns a 185-57 at helm for the men. Additionally, the win moves Linn's total coaching record to 246-93,  good for a .726 winning percentage. With plenty of opportunities on the schedule for each of Linn's teams, he could reach the 250 win mark this season.

HENRY ADDS ANOTHER MAC AWARD TO HIS RESUME:  Senior swimmer Andrew Henry earned his second conference honor this season after helping the Eagles top Oakland, Nov. 7. Henry won three individual events and anchored a second place relay team in the Eagles victory, accounting for 31 points. The award marks the fifth time in his career Henry has been named Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.
