The Eagles, fresh off their first ever MAC title, are ready to compete for a spot in the 2015 NCAA Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — After claiming their first ever Mid-American Conference Championship, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team heads to Madison, Wis. for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Friday, Nov. 13. Following their incredible MAC performance, the team hopes to continue their success and qualify for the NCAA Championship for the first time since 1996.

At the MAC Championships, the Eagles, in addition to claiming the team title, also claimed the individual title, as junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) finished at the top of the podium. Sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) finished fourth, while senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - Univ. of Leuven) finished sixth. All three of them received First-Team All-MAC honors for their performances. Additionally, senior Amy Frauhammer (Saline, Mich. - Saline) and freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) both placed in the top-25.

Head Coach Sue Parks thought that the team did a great job at the conference championship, but still feels as though her team can improve further. When discussing this weekend's upcoming race, she stated "We had a great day at the MAC meet, but I still feel like we are capable of more. We would like to improve on our finish from last year and place as high as we possibly can as a team. Our training has gone well since the MAC, and we feel that we can build on the success that we had there."

Other schools in attendance include No. 7 Michigan, No. 15 Notre Dame, and No. 18 Michigan State, as well as MAC foes Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Kent State, Miami,  Ohio, Toledo, and Western Michigan. The 6,000-meter women's race will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course, and is set to begin at Noon. For more information on the event, please click here.
