MADISON, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) —
The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team improved upon their placing last season, as they took sixth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, Nov. 13, in Madison, Wis. With 216 points, the team posted its highest finish at the event since 1996, when they took second.

Junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) followed up her MAC title with another strong performance, as she finished ninth and crossed the finish line in 20:50.3. The next Eagle to cross the finish line was sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison), who placed 19th in 21:01.0. Senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - Univ. of Leuven) took 34th with a time of 21:24.5, while sophomore Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium - Sportschol KA2) made her team debut, as she previously ran unattached. Wyns finished 70th and crossed the finish line in 22:02.3.

Freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) closed her strong freshman campaign with an 84th-place finish in 22:18.3. Senior Amy Frauhammer (Saline, Mich. - Saline) and sophomore Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich. - Seaholm)  rounded out the Eagles, taking 104th and 125th in 22:47.1 and 23:07.4, respectively.

Head Coach Sue Parks was very impressed with the resilience and positivity that the team showed not only today, but throughout the season. "This was the highest finish for our program in many years. I'm pleased to move up two spots from last year. We had a good day, but we needed a great day to break into the top five and have a shot at an NCAA bid as a team. We will have to wait and see if we get an individual qualifier once the at large teams are picked. I'm proud of the team and of our season. We battled some adversity throughout the fall, but the girls remained positive and finished the season strong," said Parks.

The Green and White, as well as individuals, now wait to see if they qualified to the NCAA Championships with an at-large bid. The NCAA Championships take place Saturday, Nov. 21, in Louisville, Ky.
