Eagles Finish Third at Blue Raider Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team saved its best play for the last day at the Blue Raider Invitational, vaulting them up the leaderboard for a third place finish. All five Eagles turned in their best scorecards of the event Tuesday, Oct. 20, as the team shot 293 in round three. Shaving off 21 strokes from their second round at the par-72 Old Fort Golf Club, Tuesday's showing brought the Eagles' weekend total to 922 (315-314-294=923).
Sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) posted a team-best 226 (74-76-75) to tie for sixth. It marks the fourth time in her two-year career she has finished in the top-10. The three-day total was just four strokes off Beck's career-best, 222.
Redshirt senior Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario-St. Augustine Secondary School) wrapped up the weekend in a tie for 14th with a three-day total of 229 (82-74-73).
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and redshirt senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) finished tied for 25th, carding a three-day total of 234. Stephens' finish was highlighted by the team's lowest round of the tournament on the final day of play, carding a one-under par, 71.
Freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) finsied the event tied for 68th with a 245 (83-85-77), rounding out the EMU golfers.
Invitational host, Middle Tennessee won the invite posting a three-day score of 883 (298-292-293), while Troy placed second (306-317-289=912).
The Eagles return to the links, Nov. 1, in Hot Springs Village, Ark. where they will take part in the Little Rock Classic in a three-day event to close out the fall season.
