Freshman Kaylin Williams recorded a career-high 10 saves
KENT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Closing out their four-game road trip, the Eastern Michigan University soccer team traveled to Kent State University for a Mid-American Conference bout with the Golden Flashes (9-5-2; 5-3-0 MAC), Sunday, Oct. 18 at Zoeller Field. Fighting through the wind and brisk temperatures the Eagles (5-9-2; 2-5-1 MAC) came up on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision in the MAC divisional crossover match. Freshman Kaylin Williams (Kansas City, Mo.-Winnetonka) registered a career-high 10 saves in the loss.
The Eagles spent a majority of the first half in their defensive half of the field, mustering just one shot in the opening 45 minutes. Meanwhile, Kent State blasted 13 shots with six on frame. Williams came up with five saves in the opening frame but a 12th minute header off a corner kick sent the Green and White into the break trailing, 1-nil.
Kent State doubled its lead in the second half, as Donavan Caperhart netted her second goal of the game in the 54th minute, before capping off a hat trick in the 86th minute to put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
EMU was outshot 25-5 for the match, while Kent State held a 9-1 advantage in corners.
With the loss the Eagles close out their four-game road trip with a 1-2-1 record heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Fortunately for EMU, it will close out the regular season slate at Scicluna Field with matches against Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Bowling Green. The Green and White open the home stand, Friday, Oct. 23, against the Broncos. The match against MAC West Division foe, Western Michigan, is slated to start at 3 p.m.
