—Eastern Michigan University's men's swimming and diving team kept a 68 Mid-American Conference dual winning streak alive with a Senior Day victory over Miami University, Jan. 31.  The Eagles advance to 5-1 (2-0 MAC) after downing the RedHawks 181-108, who fall to 2-4 (0-2 MAC).

Before the start of the meet, the EMU squad honored its 10 seniors who have impacted the program greatly in their four years as Eagles, including:  Mike Fisher (Saline, Mich.-Saline), Dakoda Johnson (Greenwood, Ind.-Center Grove), Brian Moore (Anthem, Ariz.-Boulder Creek), Franco Petrone (Etobicoke, Ontario-Silverthorne Collegiate Institute), Nate Schingoethe (Itasca, Ill.-Lake Park), Axel Schmitter-Sanchez (Istapalapa, Mexico-Calmecac), Grant Schwarz (Greenwood, Ind.-Center Grove), Sage Stephens (Warren, Ill.-Warren), Sean Tento (Seattle, Wash.-O'Dea), and Matt Ventura (Lakewood, Ohio-St. Edward).

Eastern surrendered just one victory to the RedHawks before scratching their final three events, having secured a team win well before the close of the meet.  The Green and White also recorded 1-2 finishes in numerous events, including the meet-opening 200 medley relay.  The lineup of Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson), Kyle Aerne (Lake Villa, Ill.-Lakes Community), Kevin Moore (Anthem, Ariz.-Boulder Creek), and B. Moore touched in first, winning the race in 1:32.41 ahead of the quartet of Erik Gissen (Karlstad, Sweden-Alvkullegymnasiet), Fisher Connor Fotsch (Winnetka, Ill.-New Trier), and Erik Brinkhoff (Bethel Park, Pa.-Bethel Park)'s mark of 1:34.01.

The team went on to have another winner and runner-up combination in the 1000 free, with Kyle Lichtenberg (Clarkston, Mich.-Homeschool) pacing the field in 9:42.05 before Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) swept in for second in 9:43.16.  Lichtenberg went on to win the 500 free to sweep his events, touching in at 4:39.01 while Tento nabbed second in 4:40.39 and Petrone completed a sweep of the top-three spots in 4:42.01.  Andrew Henry (Garner, N.C.-West Johnston) repeated his performance last week with a sweep of the 100 and 200 free, touching in at 45.41 and 1:39.07.  In both races, the Eagles also had a swimmer place third as B. Moore clocked a 45.87 in the 100 free and Petrone finished the 200 free in 1:44.04.

Both butterfly races placed an Eagle in both of the top-two spots.  Gissen finished first in the 100 fly in 50.26, and was followed up by Marcin Rzyski (Olsztyn, Poland-Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace #4) in 51.20 seconds, who went on to pace Liam McKane (Sarasota, Fla.-Suncoast Polytechnical) in the 200 fly with the pair winning in 1:51.02 and 1:53.87, respectively.

Bateman continued his dominance in the backstroke races, winning the 100 back by more than a second in 50.19 seconds, followed by Gissen in 51.32 seconds for runner-up.  In the 200 back, Bateman won by more than three seconds, clocking in at 1:49.06 while Chris Cutter (Fishers, Ind.-Fishers) finished third in 1:53.95.

Another event sweep came from Chris Hodges (Lincolnshire, Ill.-Stevenson) in the breaststroke.  The junior swam the 100 breast in 56.70, leading a top-three sweep of the event with Arne (57.18) and Fisher (57.68).  Hodges also won the 200 breast, finishing two and a half seconds ahead of Ethan McNally (Loveland, Colo.-Loveland) in 2:05.12 with McNally grabbing second in 2:08.75.

One more event was scored for the Eagles, with Alex Chan (Toronto, Ontario-Neil McNeil Catholic) winning the 3-meter dive with 366.83 points.  Chan would have won the 1-meter dive as well had his exhibition score of 335.40 been scored, and Johnson's exhibition mark of 311.33 would have been good for second.

Eastern also scratched the 200 IM and 400 free relay to end the meet.  Once again, had the times counted, the Green and White would have claimed the top two spots from Bateman in 1:55.79 and McNally in 1:56.29, along with Hodges in 1:56.69.  In the 400 free relay, Gissen, Burton, B. Moore, and Henry recorded the fastest time in the pool, touching in at 3:04.52.

The Eagles will be back in the water in two weeks when they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Invitational, Feb. 14-15.
