ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team wrapped up play at the Wolverine Invitational Sunday, Sept. 7, on the 6,704-yard, par-71 U-M Golf Course. The Eagles carded a final round team score of 286 to finish in a tie with Wichita State University for sixth place at nine-over 861 (285-290-286). The host Wolverines won the 11-team tournament with a score of 845 (278-280-287).
Sophomores Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) tied for 15th place with a cumulative total 215 in the 66 player field. Rodes carded rounds of 71,72 and 72 for a career-low for a 54-hole tournament, bettering his previous standard of 219 (73-76-70) set last season at the USF Invitational, March 2-4, 2014. Meanwhile, Kramer also improved upon his previous low of 217 (76-71-70) also set at the USF Invitational with marks of 72, 72 and 71.
Junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) tied for 20th overall with a score of 216 72-73-71), while junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) finished in 28th with a total of 218 (73-73-72). Senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) closed out the scoring for EMU, as he tied for 32nd place overall with a score of 220 (70-73-77).
Playing as individuals, Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada -Highland Secondary) tied for 23rd in his collegiate debut with a 217 (74-68-75). Sophomore transfer Jake McNulty (Port Perry, Ontario, Canada-Port Perry-VCU) improved his score each round, but finished with a 252 (90-84-78) after a slow start to the tournament.
U-M's Kyle Mueller earned medalist honors with his seven-under 206 (67-70-69). On the team scoreboard, Michigan (845) was followed by Penn State (855), Kansas (856), San Jose State (859), Wisconsin (859), EMU (861) and Wichita State (861).
Eastern Michigan will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Burlington, Iowa, for the Golfweek's Men's Conference Challenge.
