Men's Golf to Open Season at Wolverine Intercollegiate

22nd-year Head Coach Bruce Cunningham takes team to 11-team tournament
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team opens its fall season Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Wolverine Intercollegiate on the U-M Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. The first and second rounds will be played on Saturday with the final round to be held Sunday, Sept. 7.
EMU played in the event last season, taking fifth place with a two-day total of 863 (297-284-282). Stuart Grehan tied for the best third round score on the final day with a 67 to finish fifth overall with a 211 (75-69-67).
There will be 11 teams and 11 individuals competing at the 2014 Wolverine Intercollegiate, including Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, Harvard, Kansas, Michigan, Penn State, Rutgers, San Jose State, Wichita State, Wisconsin and Xavier. The list of teams with an individual competing will be Michigan (3x), Eastern Michigan (2x), Kansas, Penn State, Rutgers, Wichita State, Wisconsin and Xavier.
The course will be set up as a par-71, playing to a distance of 6,704 yards. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com, and play will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the second round following directly afterward. Sunday's final round will start at 8 a.m. EMU will be paired with Wisconsin and Harvard as a part of group two during the first day.
The Eagles return four student-athletes from last year's team including senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer), junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) and sophomores Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) and Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth).
Joining Eastern Michigan will be junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.),? sophomore Jake McNulty (Port Perry, Ontario, Canada-Port Perry-VCU) along with freshmen John Boncoddo (Brantford, Ontario, Canada-St. John's College) and Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary).
